With more than 90% of the population living on the costal fringe in Queensland, it is easy to understand why diving tourism is such a large part of the Queensland lifestyle. Queensland is home to the world’s most famous marine park, the Great Barrier Reef, spanning 350,000 square kilometres of Ocean and containing well over 2,500 reefs. The Great Barrier Reef provides more spectacular underwater territory than anywhere in the world. Moving further South is Townsville, the gateway to Australia’s most famous shipwreck the SS Yongala, Airlie Beach the main access point to famous Whitsunday Islands and Gladstone & Hervey Bay, arguably the most accessible point to the Barrier Reef. Further south again at the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and Gold Coast the warm tropical fish meet the common Southern species in an explosion of life around the abundant Reef and famous shipwrecks including the like of Ex-HMAS Brisbane in Mooloolaba.
